What is the difference between Dr. Pen Ultima A1w Micro-Needling Pen and Dr. Pen Ultima X5 Micro-Needling Pen?
The X5 has a display screen which will show the speed of the device, where the A1-W will show speed via the speed at which the light flickers on the device.
The A1W is able to reach speeds of 15000RPM, while the X5 is a little stronger at 1600RPM.
A1-W depth can reach up to 3mm depth, while the X5 can reach 2.5mm. Please note, we would not recommend longer than 0.75mm for the facial region at home, the longer lengths are intended for use on the body.

What kind of skin concerns can a Dr. Pen device target?
All sorts of skin concerns can be tackled with a microneedling device, including the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, loose skin, acne scars, deep scars and stretchmarks – though which you are tackling will depend on which cartridge you’re utilising.
By creating micro-channels in your skin, the use of a Dr. Pen product can enhance the penetration of almost any other serum, and therefore, whichever skin concern your serum was targeting. We recommend an EGF or a hyaluronic acid serum for maximum results with minimum irritation.
We would not recommend the use of any exfoliating serums in conjunction with a Dr. Pen product – so no AHA, BHA, Retinol or Vitamin C serums within 48 hours of a Dr. Pen treatment.
A Dr Pen device also triggers the body’s natural healing process, which can help to promote the appearance of fresher, newer looking skin. This collagen induction therapy process helps to promote the production of new collagen and elastin production – and who doesn’t want that?
It’s non-invasive and your one-way ticket to more glowy-looking skin, and a complexion that has a reduced appearance of fine lines,m wrinkles, texture, stretch marks, loss of tone, enlarged pores, acne scarring and pigmentation.

How often can I microneedle?
If you are using the 12pin or 36 pin cartridge, you should not use your microneedling device any more frequently than once per month. Nano-needling can be done once a week.

How do I get started with my Dr Pen Ultima X5?
Before you begin: It’s best to stop using any Vitamin A or Retinol based creams or serums 3-5 days before you use your Dr. Pen to reduce the chance of irritation. We’d also recommend reducing the use of any anti-inflammatory tablets to reduce the risk of unwanted bleeding, including paracetemol or ibuprofen. If you are taking any prescription medication, have undertaken any procedures or surgeries (cosmetic or otherwise), you should check with your prescribing/attending doctor before using this device.
Firstly, you’ll need to get your A1-W charged up. If you’re happy to work with the device on the cord, you can go ahead and get started right away, otherwise, you’ll want to wait for the light to turn green before giving your new Dr Pen.
Ensure skin is completely cleansed of makeup, moisturiser, oils etc. If you want to minimise discomfort, apply numbing cream 30 minutes before you intend to begin your treatment.
Regardless of whether you use numbing cream, you’ll need to sanitise your face by taking an alcohol solution such as Osocol Rubbing Alcohol over the entire area you intend to treat.

How do I use my Dr. Pen?
There are full instructions included with every Dr Pen device, and you should read these in full before commencing treatment. If you just want to refresh your memory, here are the dirty deets:
You’ll need to use a fresh cartridge EVERY time you use your Dr. Pen device. Pop the new cartridge onto the device. Determine the needle depth you want to use.
If using with a serum (remembering that this serum should not be retinol, AHAH/BHA or Vitamin C based), apply your serum in small areas immediately prior to needling.
Press and hold the “on” button for 3 seconds to turn the device on. The recommended pattern to move the pen for best results is vertical, horizontal, and then diagonal in both directions. Using light pressure and without dragging, repeat this motion over each area two times.
If you have any queries, please reach out to our customer service team prior to commencing your treatment.

What is the aftercare for using a Dr. Pen?
For 48 hours after using Dr. Pen, please don’t use any serums, creams or other beauty products that contain Retinol, AHA/BHAs or low-pH Vitamin C serums.
Wear an SPF30 to SPF50, reapplying as often as recommended by the product. Don’t go swimming, or to the gym for at least 24 hours – your skin needs to heal before being exposed to bacteria present in these environments.

Can I use a Dr. Pen device before an event?
It is not advisable to use Dr. Pen within 48-72 hours of an event, as you may experience redness or skin flaking.

How many times can I use a cartridge?
Each Dr. Pen device can be used only once – this is to ensure there is no cross-contamination, but also to ensure that needles are at their sharpest, as dull needles could cause damage to the skin which could lead to undesirable inflammation.
